There are many reasons to visit Hoi An and coffee is one of them! From egg and salt to drip or coconut coffee – you’ll find some of the best and most unique brews in Vietnam’s Hoi An cafes.

During our month in Hoi An as digital nomads, we got obsessed with trying them all. Almost every morning we would start our day by cycling to a different cafe, trying different coffee styles or beans.

In the reviews of the Hoi An cafes we’ve visited, we’d often read “This is the best coffee in the whole of Vietnam!” and after traveling to many other places in Vietnam we can second that!

We fell in love with Hoi An’s local coffee scene and its beautiful cafes. Visiting Hoi An’s cafes has helped us to fully immerse ourselves in Vietnam’s coffee culture and explore different parts of Hoi An in a fun way.

Whether you’re looking for a rooftop cafe, rice paddy view, hidden alley-way cafe, workspace or green oasis, you’ll find it on this list of our favorite 18 Hoi An cafes!

Vietnamese Coffee you have to try

Did you know that Vietnam is the second-largest coffee producer in the world after Brazil? That explains why there is such a great and big coffee scene all over Vietnam!

Vietnam is particularly known for producing robusta coffee beans, which are typically used in instant coffee and espresso blends.

So be ready for a strong and dark cup if you order a black coffee in Vietnam! In Americanos you mostly get an Arabica blend, which is smoother and less strong, and therefore my favorite choice.

But there are many types of coffee in Vietnam that I hadn’t even heard of before coming here. So before we dive into the best Hoi An Cafes, here is a quick overview of what to try:

🥥 Coconut Coffee (Cà Phê Dừa): Is as delicious as it sounds! It’s a mix of strong black coffee, coconut milk or cream, ice cubes and sometimes a bit of condensed milk for sweetness. So make sure to ask for it without condensed milk if, like me, you are not a fan!

🧂 Salt Coffee (Cà Phê Muối): Yes, you’ve heard right, this is a blend of strong black coffee with a salted cream foam, so literally salted coffee. But if you have ever had a chocolate bar with sea salt on top, you can imagine this is freakin delicious, a must-try in Vietnam!

🥚 Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng): Again, it is what it sounds like. Egg coffee was invented in Hanoi due to a milk shortage at that time. Egg yolks are whisked with sugar and condensed milk until they form a light, custard-like foam. Mixed with strong black coffee it’s more of a creamy dessert than a drink. Highly recommend trying it hot, not iced!

☕️ Drip Coffee (Cafe Phin / Den): Cafe Den is a Vietnamese staple black coffee made from Robusta beans. It’s brewed through a Phin filter, which is a little metal container placed on top of the cup. The coffee slowly drips through it, pacing down life before you can start drinking it. Often served with sugar, condensed milk or ice it’s crazy strong and only for the boldest coffee lovers out there.

There are tons of awesome cafes scattered around Hoi An. Many are in hidden alleyways, so you will need to know where to look.

The best way to visit Hoi An’s cafes is by foot or bicycle, but you can also easily reach them by motorbike or a quick Grab drive.

1. Ren Rua Cafe

• Best egg coffee in Hoi An!
• Tucked away in a quiet hidden alley of the Old Town
• Hours: 8 AM-9 PM daily

We had our first egg coffee ever in Hoi An at Ren Rua Cafe and loved it! Skeptical at first (I mean, egg in a coffee!?) we quickly understood what the hype was about.

Served in a small bowl of hot water to keep the egg coffee warm and creamy, Ren Rua nailed the consistency and sweetness perfectly in our opinion.

We had a few more egg coffees after that and still think that Ren Rua has the best egg coffee in Hoi An. So no matter if it’s your first or 10th time trying, give it a go and let us know in the comments how you liked it!

Plus, the staff is super friendly and the cafe is very peaceful with lots of cool little arty details, plants and books throughout their yard and inside.

2. Cafe Slow

• One of the best cafes in Hoi An to unwind or work
• Peaceful view over vegetable fields

Cafe Slow has more than 13k+ Instagram followers and 3 locations throughout Vietnam for good reason. It’s a beautifully designed cafe with lots of wood, plants, a fish pond and a great view over vegetable fields.

We went there for the scenery but they also served excellent coffee! You can choose between different brewing methods like V60 or hand drip and beans from Vietnam, Kenya, Ethiopia, Brazil or Colombia.

We chose an Americano with beans from Colombia and it was delicious! Since we have been coffee farmers for 1 day in Medellin, Colombia we are biased 🙂

Cafe Slow is perfect if you are looking for a quiet and chill coffee shop outside Hoi An’s Old Town to unwind, sip excellent coffee or get some work done with a view.

They also have a few pastries that looked delicious but we didn’t try.

Tip: Cafe Slow is located in Hoi An’s Tra Que village which has lots of things to do! You can farm, attend a cooking class, join a bike or coconut boat tour, get a massage or ride a buffalo!

3. Nourish Eatery

• Best black coffee in Hoi An!
• Yummy bowls, healthy food and a beautiful space
• Hours: 9 AM-4 PM, closed Mondays

If you are looking for a big, beautiful cafe in Hoi An that serves lots of healthy food, colorful smoothie bowls, vegan burgers and great coffee then check out Nourish Eatery.

We came there for the food and vibes, but we found the best Vietnamese iced black coffee there! Usually, Cafe Den is very, very strong, almost syrupy, but this one was lighter and full of flavor.

I highly recommend giving their Cafe Den a go, especially if you are a Vietnamese coffee beginner. Their iced coconut and salted coffees also looked delicious and great for an Instagrammable shot.

I had the Granola Heaven Bowl, which wasn’t my favorite, so I would opt for their smoothie bowls or hearty breakfasts instead, which all looked super tasty.

4. Good Eats

• Excellent Salted coffee + Americano
• Healthy food, in-house bakery, pastries
• Chill vibes, dedicated workspace
• Hours: 8 AM-4 PM daily

Good Eats is around the corner from Nourish Eatery and is perfect for vegetarians or vegans. We got drowned in it because of its healthy food, smoothies, coffee and pastries.

They have an in-house bakery in the back with delicious-looking gluten-free pastries. We love their slogan “happy food, happy mood” and their focus on good ingredients.

We had a Salted coffee and an Americano there and both were excellent! I highly recommend getting their Salt coffee, which has cream cheese as an ingredient. It was very creamy, not too sweet, and had a perfect consistency.

If you need to get some work done, you can sit in front of Good Eats’ pastries bar in a separate room with big tables. We always prefer it when cafes keep relaxation and work spaces separate.

So if you are a healthy foodie or a digital nomad like us, we highly recommend Good Eats!

Tip: Good Eats is a 10-minute walk away from Banh Mi Chay, our favorite vegan Banh Mi in Hoi An! 🌱

5. Uncle Huan Coffee

• Best Cafe in Hoi An’s Old Town
• Super friendly staff, aircon inside
• Hours: 7 AM-11:30 PM daily

Usually, we avoid coffee shops right next to tourist attractions but Uncle Huan is a great exception.

This coffee shop overlooks one of the temples and square of Hoi An’s Old Town which is a great place to take photos or buy your UNESCO ticket to visit some of Hoi An’s ancient attractions.

We were treated like kings from the beginning to the end of our visit (we went there twice!). All staff members were super friendly and helpful and brought us free water and hand towels to combat the midday heat.

The coffee is also excellent! We tried Cafe Den (Vietnamese black coffee) which comes here by default with milk, so keep that in mind when ordering.

Despite the heat, I recommend sitting outside and upstairs to soak up the nice view and Hoi An’s Ancient Town vibes. Otherwise, Uncle Huan is one of the rare Hoi An cafes that have aircon inside.

At night, this coffee shop turns into a chill bar with beer on tap, which is a great option if you are looking for a cozy spot at night.

Tip: Uncle Huan is next to the starting point of most Free Walking Tours in Hoi An and the ticket booth to get your ancient attractions pass ⛩️

6. Memories Rooftop Brunch & Cafe

• Best rooftop cafe in Hoi An!
• Super friendly staff, great for working

Memories Rooftop Cafe was a lucky find! We were strolling around Hoi An’s market when we stumbled over this coffee shop.

Memories is in a big yellow building spread over 4 floors and serves food, coffee and drinks all day. The best part is their great rooftop where you can overlook Hoi An’s roofs and snap tons of photos.

The staff was super friendly and gave us a typical Vietnamese hat that made a great photo, which you can see down below 😉 We had fun!

Their Americano was excellent and they have an extensive food menu if you are looking for brunch in Hoi An. The prices are a bit steep, so if you are traveling on a budget like us, I recommend only coming here for a cup of coffee and enjoying the view.

If you are looking for a place to work, you will find plenty of space inside where there are nicely decorated rooms with and without air-con.

7. Phin Coffee Restaurant

• Second best egg coffee in Hoi An!
• A green oasis in a hidden alleyway

Phin Coffee is a hidden gem tucked away in one of Hoi An’s Old Town’s alleyways. It’s fully overgrown by plants and a naturally cool and green getaway from the heat.

We had their egg coffee which I highly recommend to try! It is super creamy, flavorful, not too sweet and has a great consistency. If you want to learn how to make your own you can check out their coffee classes.

There are also lots of (gluten-free/vegan) pastries, smoothie bowls and savory meals on the menu which we didn’t try but people seem to like.

We really enjoyed Phin Coffee’s laidback atmosphere, with people reading books, relaxing and chatting. It’s Allan’s favorite Hoi An cafe, so give it a try!

Tip: Phin Coffee is just a street away from where you can hop on a 20-minute boat ride along the lantern-lit river at night. It’s very touristy but nice to watch. You can get your skip-the-line Hoi An River Boat ticket here 🛶

8. NGHE Rice Paddy Cafe

• In the middle of a rice field!
• Super friendly staff, big food & cafe menu

This is a unique cafe in Hoi An! We discovered it while cycling around Hoi An’s peaceful and picturesque rice fields between Hoi An’s Ancient Town and An Bang Beach.

NGHE Rice Paddy Cafe is exactly what it sounds like: a coffee shop in the middle of a green rice field. The staff was super friendly and served us free homemade rice crackers freshly baked from their kitchen. Yum!

We ordered their black coffee which was too strong for me (it’s the real Vietnamese kick) but Allan liked it. So if you prefer something smoother, I recommend ordering their coconut, salt or egg coffee instead.

They also have lots of fresh juices, cacao, matcha and sweet and savory food options on their cafe menu. So even if you are not in a coffee mood, I recommend coming here and getting something different to enjoy the view.

Tip: This off-the-beaten-path bicycle tour shows you the tranquil countryside of Hoi An. We loved cycling around Hoi An’s rice fields, seeing water buffalos swim and locals farm their land 🌾

9. Coffee Xom Chieu

• Hidden gem with rice field views
• Coffee, juices, smoothies

Coffee Xom Chieu is another hidden gem overlooking Hoi An’s rice fields. We discovered it after stopping at NGHE Rice Paddy Cafe. It’s only a short bike ride away and has a very local vibe.

It’s ideal if you are looking for fresh juices, rocket-fuel Vietnamese black coffee, and enjoy sitting in small camping seats among locals.

The cafe has very reasonable prices and people seem to love the coconut coffee which looks very creamy and different from other coconut coffees we have seen in town.

There are lots of pink flowers and a swing, making it a perfect stop for an Instagrammable shot.

10. FeFe Coffee

• Our go-to cafe outside Hoi An’s Old Town
• Excellent coffee, roastery, coffee tours
• Hours: 8 AM-5 PM daily
• Location: Tổ 16 thôn bến trễ, Hội An (Google Maps)

While this coffee shop is out of reach for most tourists visiting Hoi An, we had to put it on our list of the best Hoi An Cafes because it’s the cafe we visited the most and has excellent coffee.

FeFe Coffee was just around the corner from our lovely Airbnb in which we stayed for one month, so whenever we were looking for a quick caffeine boost we hopped into FeFe’s cafe.

On-site, there is a beautiful outdoor sitting area full of plants, a roastery and a little shop selling freshly ground coffee beans and phin filters. We got a bag of their signature robusta beans for home.

We tried several of their coffees, and the Salt coffee and Americano were our favorites. Each coffee was served with a little card telling about the ingredients and style of the coffee, which is a nice addition.

So if you are for any reason in this part of town, make sure to grab one of their laidback chairs and enjoy their little green oasis amongst the locals.

FeFe also offers coffee tours which you can book directly in the cafe or by reaching out to them.

Tip: If you make your way to Cafe FeFe in the morning, also stop at Pho Lien, one of our favorite local breakfast Pho stalls. The lady serves authentic, no-frills Pho, always welcomed us with a huge smile and you won’t see any foreigners there!

11. An Nhan Exquisite Cultural Gallery & Coffee

• Unique cafe in Hoi An

We found An Nhan Exquisite Cultural Gallery & Coffee when looking for coconut basket boat tours which are in this area. It’s a unique, off-the-beaten-path cafe that can only be reached by car or bike.

From the moment of stepping in, it doesn’t feel like an ordinary cafe but like a cozy museum. It’s full of interesting-looking wooden statues, plants and artwork.

On top of the cafe is their free cultural gallery which is worth seeing. The staff is super friendly and shows you around, explaining all the artifacts of Vietnam’s ethnical minorities displayed.

You will see colorful masks, traditional clothing, bamboo baskets, pottery and so much more. The gallery is full of little details but kept super tidy and clean.

Plus, they serve excellent coffee! We had their Americano and drip coffee which both tasted like they were made from premium beans. They also offer coffee classes for a reasonable price.

Tip: You can combine a visit with a coconut basket boat tour, one of the most popular things to do in Hoi An. It’s touristy but we had a great time! 🛶

12. Tri Long Coffee

If you want to learn more about Vietnamese coffee, I recommend visiting Tri Long Coffee. They have their own roastery, coffee shop and cafe in one.

While we weren’t the biggest fans of their coconut coffee, we liked their egg coffee. It was super creamy and came with a delicious cookie.

The staff was super friendly and helpful, showing us around the shop and letting us smell different coffee beans. You can peek into their roasting machine and soak up freshly ground coffee bean smell.

We were tempted to join one of their in-house coffee classes in which you will learn how to make phin, egg and coconut coffee. You can book this Tri Long coffee class or pop into the cafe and sign up!

13. Bk Fruit Juice & Coffee

• Best coconut coffee in Hoi An!
• Our go-to cafe at An Bang Beach
• Hours: All day, every day (family-run)
• Location: W86Q+WX5, Đ. Hai Bà Trưng, Hội An (Google Maps)

We stumbled upon this local cafe when we cycled the first time to Hoi An’s An Bang Beach. Bk Coffee is run by a friendly Vietnamese family who were one of the reasons we returned multiple times.

After trying more than half of their menu we have a clear winner for you to try: their coconut coffee! Every time we ordered it we saw the woman cracking up a fresh coconut, scooping out the flesh and blending it into the drink. Delicious!

The drink is topped with roasted coconut flakes which tasted great and we never got in any other Hoi An cafe. So if you head to An Bang beach, I highly recommend stopping for their coconut coffee.

Tip: At Ang Bang Beach you have to pay for parking your bicycle or motorbike. Instead, get a drink at Bk Coffee and leave your bike there for free!

14. The Inner Hoian by Ala

The Inner Hoian is a specialty cafe tucked away in one of Hoi An’s shaded side streets. It’s easy to miss because it’s at the end of a narrow alleyway but that makes it even more exciting.

There are different spaces and rooms in the cafe with indoor and outdoor seating under trees. While we were chatting there with friends, we saw many people with laptops, so it seems to be a popular working spot.

You’ll order your coffee in their shop full of interesting coffee merch. It took us a bit to go through their coffee menu because they offer a lot of cool drinks and variations!

I went for the matcha latte with coconut milk which was excellent, while Allan went for the drip coffee. He was able to choose the beans from light to medium and dark roast.

If you’re unsure what to get, you will get recommendations from the staff based on your preferences which is great. There were lots of good-looking pastries too but we didn’t get a chance to try them.

15. Hoi An Coffee Hub

Like the Inner Hoi An, this coffee shop is one you’ll likely only discover if you’re specifically looking for it. Hoi An Coffee Hub is at the end of a shaded and naturally cool alleyway of Hoi An’s Old Town.

It felt a bit like stepping into Alice in Wonderland’s rabbit hole as you are suddenly transformed from a busy sunny street into a very relaxed, colorful and interesting-looking cafe.

There is lots of different seating to choose from and wooden tables inside that would be great for working.

We had Vietnamese black coffee and an Americano that tasted very earthy, fitting the atmosphere. The owner was super friendly and gave recommendations if you’re unsure what to try.

Make sure to use their bathroom which is overgrown by plants and an experience! I posted a video of it on Instagram which shows how worth visiting it is 😉

16. Son Cafe

• Popular with locals, family-run

Once again, this is a Hoi An cafe you’ll most likely only find if you’re looking for it, which is great. Son Cafe is full of locals in a quiet and nice side street of Hoi An’s center.

It’s family-run and we loved its casual and friendly atmosphere. It’s also full of interesting little details like crochet flowers made by the owner for sale.

We had their salted coffee which was great! It was creamy and not too sweet so you can still taste the coffee which I prefer. They also have coconut coffees that look great!

17. Art Coffee

• A little cafe in Hoi An’s Old Town
• Most friendliest owner!
• Hours: 7:30 AM-5 PM daily
• Location: 43 Bà Triệu, Hội An (Google Maps)

The reason you should visit Art Coffee Hoi An is the lovely owner who runs this place. She is super welcoming and chats with you about Vietnam, coffee or anything else if you like.

The cafe is full of beautiful paintings created by her husband who is an artist. It’s a great place to relax, have a nice chat and soak up Hoi An’s cute town flair.

We had an Americano and a coconut coffee which were both solid good but just not our personal favorites in Hoi An. Next time I would try her cold brews or smoothies which many people rave about in their Google reviews.

18. Ba Trong Coffee

• Very affordable cafe outside the Old Town
• Popular with locals with two cuddly puppies!

On the way from our Airbnb to Hoi An’s Old Town we found Ba Trong Coffee. It’s a popular cafe amongst locals with Instagrammable vibes and great prices.

Since it’s a very Vietnamese coffee shop don’t expect specialty coffees here but a solid selection of Vietnamese coffee, teas, salted coffee, and fresh juices.

We tried their salted coffee and cafe phin and liked both! Their black coffee is rocket fuel, so I only recommend it for advanced coffee lovers 😉

The best part of our visits was the two owner’s puppies that smothered us with cuddles. They probably won’t be puppies anymore when you are visiting, but it could still be nice to have them around.
